On Memorial Day 2006 the Hayes Boys Orchestra played their first dance. Elmer Hayes, retired band director from Stratford High School not only taught Romy Gosz’s songs to his students, but also to his son Tom. At seventeen, Tom and Elmer began playing in various central Wisconsin polka bands. As bands came and went, Tom and Elmer Hayes would still get together and play their trumpets. “It just got to the point where we said, Why don’t we start a band?”, Tom asked his father…and they did just that.
The Hayes Boys Orchestra has played throughout Wisconsin sharing their love of the old time polka music, waltz's and big band. Many of the musical numbers have been arranged by Elmer Hayes, a 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame. Current band members include: Elmer Hayes (trumpet), Tom Hayes (trumpet), Gene Nikolai (Bass Horn), John Hall (Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet), Kevin Genrich (Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, Vocals), Rich Pinski (Keyboard, Accordion, Button Box, Vocals) and Rich Wilkosz (Drums). Please see our schedule to enjoy the Hayes Boys Orchestra in person or listen to our music at home with one of our CD's.
